The lawyer for a Halifax man charged with second-degree murder says his client was acting in self defence at a house party more than three years ago.
28-year-old Demarco Smith is charged in the stabbing death of 19-year-old Casey Downey.
Downey died from a single stab wound to the chest at a house party in February 2010.
Smith’s trial has wrapped up, and he testified in supreme court yesterday that Downey lunged at him and impaled himself on the knife Smith was holding.
The accused now has to wait until January 8th to find out if he’ll be convicted on the murder charge.
